| Cub Scouts to
Pay Tribute to Medal of Honor Recipients
A day which many times comes and goes without much fanfare is March
25th, Medal of Honor Day. This year our local Cub Scout Pack 312
visited Bellevue Memorial Park on Saturday, March 21st, carrying
with them letters to be sent to some of the living Medal of Honor
recipients in California. The scouts also paid tribute by visiting
the gravesite of Frank Fulton Ross, who earned the Medal of Honor
during the Philippine Insurrection. Fulton was a Private, Company
H, 1st North Dakota Volunteer Infantry, and one of a hand-picked
group of soldiers known as “Young’s Scouts.”
His official citation reads:
“With 21 other scouts charged across a burning bridge, under heavy
fire, and completely routed 600 of the enemy who were entrenched
in a strongly fortified position.”
The Cub Scouts volunteered their time and efforts as a community
service project, and the letters of gratitude will be forwarded
by Bellevue Memorial Park to the Congressional Medal of Honor Society
in South Carolina. |
