| Memorial Day
2009
For over thirty years, Bellevue Memorial Park has honored
our nation’s veterans each Memorial Day with a celebration of music,
reverence, and fanfare. This year’s program was highlighted by guest
speaker Chairman Gary Ovitt, Board of Supervisors 4th District,
and SMJ John Dolly who delivered a very special Memorial Day message
entitled “A Veteran Died Today.” The Ontario/Chaffey Show Band,
under the direction of Jack Mercer, along with the Chaffey High
School Festival Choir, provided glorious musical selections, featuring
soloists Paul Harms, Brian Detwiller, Chris McAleer, Jim Bonner,
and Brent Deschamp. |
Families and guests showed their patriotism
by waving complimentary U.S. flags provided by Bellevue Memorial Park,
as local Veteran Organizations including the Veterans of Foreign War
and the American Legion, posted and presented the National Colors
assisted by the Ontario Police Department. A helicopter “Fly Over”
provided by the Ontario Police Department followed the Show Band’s
beautiful rendition of “Battle Hymn of the Republic.” The 45 minute
program concluded with a 21 Gun Salute and the playing of “Taps” by
Officer Mike Richardson. Attendance at this year’s celebration was
estimated at 750.
Bellevue Memorial Park has become an integral part of the community
throughout the years, and continues its growth and expansion, serving
Ontario and the surrounding communities of the Inland Empire. Bellevue
Memorial Park still remains the only cemetery in Ontario, and this
year celebrates 117 years of service, dedication, and compassion for
our families and their loved ones.
The Board of Trustees, General Manager, staff, and
grounds crew would like to thank all of the groups and organizations
who participate in the program each year, as well as the community
for their support in honoring our nation’s veterans.
